2000 'Let's Do It For Johnny!!'

Bowling For Soup, are oddballs. They have a name that makes no sense at all, they drop their trousers at every opportunity, even though they are self-confessed, not - never in a million years - Calvin Klein models, and bizarrely describe themselves as 'Steve Martin meets Cheap Trick on speed'! The undisputed fact however, is that Bowling For Soup are a brilliant, catchy, punk-pop, monster hit machine.

Bowling For Soup's signature wall of guitars sound, driving beat and richly layered harmonies are amply demonstrated on their debut UK album release 'Let's Do It For Johnny!!' - Out Now. Formed in Texas in 1994, Bowling For Soup is the result of an early morning happy thought of vocalist and guitarist Jaret Von Erich. A former toy shop owner who was nurtured on Tammy Wynette, Sha Na Na, REO Speedwagon, Van Halen and Ozzy Osbourne, Von Erich was used to being happy and realised: "I want to start a band that's happy. Wouldn't it be cool to see a band and leave a club singing their songs, smiling and in a good mood?" There is no question that he has succeeded.

Bowling For Soup have amassed themselves quite a history in their six year existence, releasing their own records and playing obscene amounts of live gigs. September 1994 saw the band release their eponymous debut album on their own record label Queso (yes, it's Spanish for Cheese) Records. Since then, they have toured extensively, performing more that 200 shows in 1997/1998, and 300 in 1999. These dates have seen them support a bizarrely diverse array of bands, including Blink 182, Lit, Collective Soul, Eve 6, Less Than Jake and even C&C Music Factory!

The band's debut single 'The Bitch Song', was released in August 2000. It is an absolute punk-pop classic which started Bowling For Soup's assault on the UK. The single received Radio One airplay (courtesy of Steve Lamacq's Evening Session), and the band played a stonking performance at the 2000 Leeds and Reading Festivals. These genial pop punksters have modest, but instantly realised goals: to write spirited, honest, sing-along songs, utilise their strong vocals and harmonies, and in the words of Spinal Tap, "have a good time, all the time". In the new millennium, BFS' goals remain the same, and on the quartet's engaging Jive/Silvertone record's debut, 'Let's Do It For Johnny!!', these goals, and much more, are accomplished.
