| "If you're going
to kick authority in the teeth, you might as well do it with two feet!"
- Silver Silver. On May 15th 2000 something very special hit the UK, Hardcore Superstar released their debut album 'Bad Sneakers And A Piña Colada' (peaking at No. 7 in the Swedish National album charts) on Music For Nations. Hot on the heels of their debut single 'Someone Special', which reached number 13 in the Swedish National Charts and made its UK appearance on April 17th, Hardcore Superstar's debut album aims to bring rock back to the masses. Hardcore Superstar is a band that takes the best of two worlds and blends them together. They grew up in the eighties glam/sleaze era with the likes of Mötley Crüe, Faster Pussycat and LA Guns as influences but they posses the rawness and attitude of the Sex Pistols. The time has come to put the fun back into music. Formed in Gothenburg, Sweden a mere two years ago, the four friends all shared the same ambition: to play the best music to as many people as they can. Outlandish guitarist Silver Silver says "When you make music it's important to capture true feelings and Hardcore Superstar is all about that!" Hardcore Superstar have already built up a strong reputation as one of Sweden's hardest gigging, not to mention most exciting, bands. Taking the stage, there is no stopping them - dangerous, unpredictable and exciting to watch. "It's been a short but very intense period, with the police stopping our shows just because we are unlike everybody else in Sweden. Or maybe we're just too loud! But hell, if you're going to kick authority in the teeth you might as well do it with two feet!" says Silver. This live energy gained Hardcore Superstar the attention of Lemmy who subsequently offered them the support on Mötorhead's Scandinavian tour at the end of 1998. Lemmy also went so far as to hail the band as having 'The best record' and being 'The best live band'. This would be due to the fact that vocalist Jocke Berg's voice and the band's unbelievably great melodies remain in your mind whether you like it or not. Hardcore Superstar have already lived up to their name in their homeland with their debut single 'Someone Special' catapulting into the National Swedish Top 30 and staying there for 10 weeks. It also entered into the VOXPOP chart (Swedish equivalent of 'Top Of The Pops') at number two, beating off competition from Britney Spears, The Offspring, Mel C, Limp Bizkit, Megadeth and Silverchair amongst others. The single has been play listed on all shows at National Radio where it entered at number 9, and they have appeared on almost every live Swedish programme there is! Their second single 'Liberation' has gone one better, reaching Number 1 for two consecutive weeks on VOXPOP, with its video becoming a contender for video of the year on the same show. 'Bad Sneakers And A Piña Colada' is a testosterone filled extravaganza of catchy, energetic, self penned and produced rock 'n' roll masterpieces that leech themselves to your brain and won't let go. |
